Table 2.4 lists the results of correlation analysis of temperature data and factor data. Negative correlations were present between the mean daily maximum temperatures in August and woodland area and between the mean daily maximum temperatures and green spaces. Positive correlations were present between the mean daily maximum temperatures and the amount of anthropogenic heat emissions and between the mean daily maximum temperatures and building floor areas. Site elevation was little related to the mean daily maximum temperatures. The factor data that correlated most highly with the mean daily maximum temperatures in August were woodland area followed by green spaces; this applied for both the 150- and 250-m grid cells. Correlation coefficients were generally low for the 50-m grid cells. In the 150-m cells, the highest

correlation was between the mean daily maximum temperatures in August and the size of woodland area; correlation with the amount of anthropogenic heat emissions was the next highest value after correlation with green space size.
