The townhouse garden is different from the typical suburban single-family lot. It is normally a relatively small, walled or fenced space that is located immediately adja­cent to an urban townhouse. Similar outdoor spaces are also associated with many

one- and two-story condominiums, some first-floor apartments, duplexes, and even diminutive backyards of some single-family lots. This small architecturally defined garden requires special consideration.
